Activity One

At my school we did fictional and non-fictional work, along with stories and researched some headlines of things that were in current news. For example: One class we had to do a fake presentation of an award or certificated. So I decided to do the Heisman trophy presentation to my friend who was on the football team as something fun and something we could both relate too. Then there was times where we had to do essays and research papers. I personally liked to do fictional because it is a lot more fun and easier. Essays and research papers require more work and time and can be very mind grinding and it’s a bigger pain as most students would agree. But throughout English in high school and college there are always research papers. I actually did one on one of my chefs from culinary school and I had to interview him and get his background and how his career started all the way up to how it lead him to teaching us culinary students. That was sort of fun but took a lot of time out leisure time from school. But that brings me to the point of how I don’t like to read or write unless I’m interested. I enjoy reading sports articles from magazines like: sports illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, and because I’m a musician I enjoy browsing through magazines like musicians friend to see all the new and latest deals on newer and older equipment. Plus from time to time they will have someone from a band get interviewed by someone who works for the magazine. Also at culinary school we learned to do business letters as a simulation of what we will have to do once we go looking for a job, that also included typing up a resume. A big question anymore is what are the differences between essays and assignments and texting and emailing, my answer to that is a big difference and a similarity. The differences are that in texting you are just talking because of your free will and it doesn’t have to be worded perfect nor does it have to a certain amount of writing in your words to the person your talking to. More often than not people like to use what I can “texting slang” and in the real world of English that wouldn’t fly.
