"Shitty Drafts"summary

The story of "Shitty First Drafts" written by Anne Lamott is about how hard it is to start a paper. She expresses and stresses that people stess about it to much and just need to let go and start writing what they think off the top of their head instead of worrying so much. Its easier to get going when you just write down what leaks out from your pen or pencil tip. She states in one of the paragraphs her self that " For me and most of the other writers I know, writing is not rapturous. In fact. the only way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first drafts."

I relate to this because I have the same problem. I actually found this info very useful for the rest of my life because from now on I am just going to write down what comes acrossed my mind as far as writing a paper goes. Instead of stressing out about getting started I'm just going to run with my thoughts.

apa formating

1. "Two decades ago, when saccharin was shown to produce bladder tumors in rats, it was a product, protective step to consider the sweetner to be a likely human carcinogen".

2. Dr.Kenneth Olden

3. "However our understanding of the science has advanced and allows us [Dr's] to make finer distinctions today. Studies now, indicate that the rat bladder tumors arise from mechanisms that are not relevant to the human situation".

Passage 1

- It doesn't tell us anything really, other than Carol is an unconfident person
- The writer provides little info
- She explains she feels like she is losing her brother, father, and home all at once
- She shows concern when she has to move away

Passage 2

- It seems as if she is a single mom.
- A couple studies and opinions provide the data
- There is alot of opinions in this selection.
- The only thing choppy about this section is the opening sentence starts of with "However"

Passage 3

- You would need to refer to maybe a title page to find if this is a woman
- There isn't any use of I and at the same time we don't know anything about the author.
- It seems that a feminist from my guess is the writer of this passage
- I think the passage could be a little shorter and that the opinions used could be limited and backed up more.

Ever think what would happen to your life if your mom or dad died? Well I wonder each day how different my life would be if at all IF my mom was around. She didnt get to see me score my first basket while I played basketball in school, she didnt get to see the last either on senior night, she didnt ever get a chance to see me drive nor did I get to drive her anywhere, she didnt get the chance of catching my first speeding ticket in the mail, she didnt get to see me adn my date for prom, she didnt get to see me in concert band while in high school, she didnt and wont get to see me in my own band, she wont ever hear the music that her own son help writes and see a talent I have for it, she didnt get to se her son graduate from culinary school, she wont get to see him graduate from IUP main, she didnt get to see me even graduate high school. These are a short list of things I could go on and on about that she wont or didnt get to see in my future or passed. All of these are moments you would like to have your parents be part of and sometimes you dont realize how much it would mean to you and I myself am the sameway but for example on senior night my sister had to accompany me with my dad instead of my mom. I love my sister that she did it but when your standing at half court with everyone looking at you and your parents and you realize your mom isnt there like the others its kind of a depressing feeling because instead of announcing mr and mrs reitz it went katlyn is accompanied by mr. reitz and his sister aly. I wouldve liked to have my mom there for moments like that especially, but non hodgkins lymphoma had other ideas. She fought off cancer throughout her life but finally when I was 14 he took her down but she did however go down with a fight because it took it longer than normal to get to her the Dr's said. So the next time you say you hate your mom or dad and wish they wernt always bugging you and irritating you and you get frustrated to the point where you hate them and wish they werent around...think again and realize they actually mean alot more to you than you actually think.

I believe this is probably theeee most noticed thing that I went through while younger/childhood and it scard me for life but at the same time alot of ppl dont recover from somehting like this and its a downward spiral for the rest of there life, fortunately my sister and I recovered well and have shown how strong we are and were stronger people now because of it, on top of my gram dying the year before with lung cancer and my pop-pop jerry (dads dad) dyed because of a cancer as well. For awhile it seemed as if someone had to die in our family with some sort of cancer. But we turned out ok and I know we did because we both have been told so.

iSEARCH

I am researching the "Factors in the college student social ladder" and I've found a lot of factors that play a role. I found that money, ethnic/family background, other people around you and a few other small things are what make things trendy or cool and also found that there are students out there that are going to a school they may not have wanted to go to. There are students that are going to school because of ethnic background or there families basically made up their mind for them. So I found that there are a number of students that have a passion and full potential of doing something else and would be good at it but instead are miserable and are just going to float through life hopeless and irritated because they're are doing something they didn't really care to do. Money is a determining factor in what kind of college you can or cant go to as is the majors that are offered. I decided to do this topic because I am against stereo typing "upper" "middle" and "lower" classes. To some people it's not fair how they are or the way they act because the people around them made them that way. Family atmosphere and reactions are a big factor in how someone will perceive things and look at things growing up. If your parents are racist for example until you get out and are actually around nice African Americans' people your going to think the same way they are because they are your parents and what they say is always right.

paraphrasing in class

In final research papers students tend to overdue the direct quotation in the date collection in their research. Only 10% data should be direct quotes, Lester, James D. 2nd ed. (1976) try's to explain to limit large amounts of direct quoting.

successful epidemics in class blogging

1. I am doing my research paper on the social ladder of a college student. To answer this it would be very easy to make something trendy and have it spread throughout whatever campus. After what I've read you can make something so small seem so interesting and cool just by going through the right people and the right crowds. Life if I were trying to make iup shoes the first place I would sell my idea is the frats and sororities since they are all a giant collection of people and personalities. Once I get them wearing the shoe, alot of people on campus would take notice and think they must be trendy and cool to wear because a good fraction of campus is wearing them. To help myself spread it even more is I would under price them so that everyone could wear them as well because not everyone has alot of money. This would start an epidemic for sure and would be trendy. (this is just an example I thought of)

2. I thought the number 150 was skeptical at first. But after reading it the numbers and stats make sense.

3. I realize now if you have enough people with the same motive, you can make something very unattractive or uninteresting to something everyone will want to be part of through persuasion and marketing.
